EasyLink Fax Delivery Process & Error Codes

At EasyLink we process and successfully deliver millions of fax messages per month. Our fax delivery service is monitored 24/7, and the capacity is maintained in excess of peak demand. To facilitate successful deliveries, the EasyLink fax service incorporates sophisticated message processing algorithms that automatically re-try initially failed delivery attempts. This system interprets the destination condition being experienced, and performs a specific number of attempts over a pre-determined time period. If all attempts fail, a non-delivery notice containing the error condition is then returned to the originator so that they may decide to either re-attempt delivery, or correct the destination fax number that was submitted.

The most common cause of fax delivery failures are "Ring No Answer," and "Busy" conditions. For these, EasyLink has increased both its number of attempts, and the period of time that they are re-tried.

In the table below, "Retries" references the number of attempts that will be made in five minute intervals. The "IMS Error String" is the text that is returned after the final attempt is unsuccessful, and is contained in the cancellation notice.
